What we Believe and Practice

We strive to be the church described in the New Testament

The church of Christ in Indio is a group of Christians attempting to follow God’s word, the Bible, as closely as we can. We are not a part of any human denomination or creed. We are not governed by any one man or organization. In our worship services, we do our best to practice what we find revealed in the Bible, the inspired Word of God. The Bible is our only rule of faith and practice.

We welcome all visitors who are interested in worshiping or learning more about God. We study the whole Bible in our classes and use it in our preaching; however, we recognize and follow the New Testament as the covenant through which Christ directs His people today. We encourage any and all questions. If you believe anything we do is contrary to God’s word, we would appreciate your comments and would like to sit down and study the Scriptures to find out God’s ultimate will. We would be happy to study with you at any time and place if you are interested. It is our goal to spread the gospel…the good news!

Our Beliefs

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God and is the standard of authority. We humbly seek to read, study, meditate and apply the teachings from Scripture to our lives (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
  • We believe that “in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). God created man and gave them the freedom to choose to obey Him or not.
  • We believe we are saved “by grace through faith” (Ephesians 2:8). We believe salvation is not something we earn, for even Christ Himself said “when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘we are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’ “  Yet Christ says in John 14:15, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”  We believe “His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3).  Therefore, we believe in Him and humbly submit to Him in ALL things.
  • We believe “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) and that “the wages of sin is death” (i.e., separation from God) (Romans 6:23).
  • We believe that JESUS is the Son of God and that He came to earth “to save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:22). We believed He lived a sinless human life (Hebrews 4:14-15) and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. We believe He “is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him” (John 14:6). We believe He rose from the dead, demonstrating His power over sin and death, and ascended to the Father. We believe He will return again to receive the saved. (Romans 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Acts 1:9-11).
  • We believe in Resurrection. Just as Jesus was raised from the dead by the Father, so Jesus will return to this earth one day for a great resurrection. We believe men are “appointed to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). For that reason, we try to make known to as many as possible that in Christ there is salvation and without Him there is condemnation. As ambassadors of Christ, we implore all to be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20).
  • We believe that the Church is God’s plan to make the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (the gospel) known to all people and to invite everyone to repent and be reconciled to God in Christ (Ephesians 3:7-13).
  • We believe the New Testament teaching that “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6) and that we become Christ’s followers (Christians/disciples) by then turning away from sin (repenting of our sins)(Acts 17:30-31), confessing “with the mouth the Lord Jesus” (Romans 10:9-10; Matthew 10:32), and being baptized (immersed in water in the likeness of “the death, burial and resurrection” of Jesus (Romans 6:1-5) for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16).  We believe that when one becomes a follower of Christ, he is “added” to the church (1 Corinthians 12:13; Acts 2:47).
  • We believe we are to meet each Sunday to worship God and that is centered around the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, and includes singing, prayer, giving, and the study and proclamation of God’s Word.
  • We believe Jesus said, “remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
